Preschool!

Today was a big day in the Frederick household! It was Megan's first day in preschool. Since Carolyn is a teacher at Megan's preschool, I took a break from work to take her to her class and attend the parent orientation.

Anyway, Carolyn actually took Megan with her. After hanging out in Carolyn's classroom for a while, I picked her up and took her over to her own classroom. She had already met her teacher and seen the room, so thankfully it was not completely foreign to her. So, I hung out with her for a while, watched her make things with playdoh, talked to the little boy sitting next to her who was also making things out of playdoh and wanted to show me what he made, etc. ("Things" is about the best way to describe it, as most the time, I really had no idea what on earth the "thing" was... But, being a good toddler parent, I feigned excitement over each playdoh creation.)

I was about to make my exit, but realized that the teacher was already dealing with 2-3 traumatized children whose parents had already left. I still had time before orientation started, so I stayed a while longer. Of course, Megan had absolutely no problem with that.

Once the other kids kind of calmed down a bit, I talked to Megan about how I was going to go hang out with the other parents, but would be back later to pick her up. Of course, she was not at all happy about the idea of being left in the classroom. She wanted to go with me and started crying. Realizing that the longer I stayed around, the longer it would take for her to calm down, I told her that I loved her and would be back later, then made my exit.

I later found out that she didn't cry for too long and did very well. Yeah for Megan! I showed up when her class ended and she cried out, "Daddy!" That always feels good!
